Ransom Note Recs. welcomes back Belfast producer Lunar Orbit Rendezvous (aka Gregory Ferguson) for a stellar revisit of the title track ‘Faith/Reason’ of his 2021 album. The textured landscape and ambient tapestry of ‘Faith/Reason’ are passed onto producer pals Fred und Luna, Yoann Pistermann and Flug 8, who were able to take the track through adventures of sonic intricacy and bewitching music production.

Kicking off is Fred und Luna’s hypnotic remix featuring Loreli Faso Lhatido’s voice. Fred und Luna (aka Rainer Buchmüller) “are two mannequins living in a fashion boutique in Karlsruhe, Germany. On live shows they are represented by Sugar Ray Buckmiller as Fred… and an always-changing Luna of his choice” (RA). Under the Fred und Luna alias, Rainer produces his trademark ‘eargasmic’ Elektrokraut/Krautelektro (as he describes it himself), made of repetitive rhythms blended with ambient soundscapes and ethereal melodies alongside some traditionally inspired Krautrock. Just like the words “Faith, Reason” fluctuating in a chuggy limbo of ambient suspense and repetitive bass guitar strings.

Next up, French-born Berlin-based multi-disciplinary artist Yoann Pisterman takes Faith/Reason through to celestial gardens of zen. The interweaving of drones and melodic elements, loops, and repetitive patterns, makes up the key traits of Yoann’s magical transportive sound that echoes a lot with Japanese ambient and New Age music of the 80s. This remix slows things down to invite the listener to linger at last.

Focus track and closer is Flug 8 (aka Daniel Herrmann)’s remix – a completing enhancer of the EP’s sonic direction. Flug 8’s upbeat driving ‘space’ techno cradles like a lullaby at dawn. Swirling melodies accompany the soaring drum kicks, swirling in infinite synths of hope and void. Indeed, Daniel’s unique soundscapes are dreamy additions to Lunar Orbit Rendezvous’s remixed work.
